Tour Details

For people who enjoy unique scenery, the full-day Palccoyo Mountain of Colors Tour is the perfect option. Rainbow Mountain, like Machu Picchu, is at the top of many travelers’ Cusco bucket lists.

This full-day excursion is less strenuous than the Vinicunca Mountain tour, as it only requires a 45-minute moderate climb, but it does take you past some beautiful highlands, like the Bosque de Piedra (Stone Forest).

The dry season, which runs from April to November, is the optimum time to visit the Palccoyo Rainbow Mountains. During the wet season, the road becomes slick, and the hues of Palccoyo are frequently obscured by mist.

To avoid altitude sickness and enjoy this high-altitude adventure, we strongly advise you to spend at least two days in Cusco prior to the hike.

Why Machu Picchu Holiday Travel?

Itinerary

Day 1Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain

At 7:00 a.m., we will pick you up from your Cusco hotel. Then we’ll drive you to Checacupe in our private transportation, through Cusco’s South Valley. Checacupe is a little colonial settlement. Similar to Q’eswachaka, the village has a colonial chapel and a rope bridge erected by the incas.

We’ll come to a halt here so you can use the bathrooms and, if desired, buy some munchies. We’ll leave the road here and head uphill to the top of Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain. We’ll pass by some distant communities and schools on our way. This excursion allows you to interact more closely with distant, untouched communities.

We will progressively trek for 45 minutes to reach the summit once we arrive. We’ll pass through the stone forest on our way there. This is a one-of-a-kind perspective. On a clear day, you’ll also get a closer glimpse at the enormous Ausangate Peak, which dominates Cusco’s southern horizon.

We’ll start our descent to the parking lot once you’ve gotten your fill of the breathtaking views of the Cordillera de Ausangate and the Rainbow Mountain of Palccoyo. We’ll transport you back to Checaupe where we’ll have lunch at a local restaurant. We’ll transport you back to Cusco after lunch.
